CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police has announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the shooting death of a 10-year-old girl back on the Fourth of July, while a third suspect currently remains at large.
According to a press release, officers as well as members of the U.S. Marshals Violent Fugitive Task Force apprehended 28-year-old Juwone Deaver on accusations of murder. In addition, 23-year-old Katie McKnight was arrested for allegedly obstructing justice in the case.
Tuesday's developments come nearly four weeks after Gracie Griffin was shot in the head on West 125th Street near Triskett Road in the Jefferson neighborhood. Witnesses previously told 3News they heard about a dozen gunshots they originally believed were fireworks before someone began screaming from the middle of the street. First responders attempted to perform life-saving measures before Griffin eventually died at MetroHealth Medical Center.
Cleveland Municipal Court documents obtained by 3News allege Deaver and another man, 23-year-old Jemerious Davis, fired several gunshots at a passing vehicle and ended up striking Griffin. McKnight is accused of lying to investigators and hindering law enforcement efforts to capture the suspects.
While Deaver and McKnight are in custody, authorities are still actively searching for Davis as of Wednesday. He is described as being 5-foot-10 and weighing 163 pounds with tattoos on the front of his neck.
Anyone with information regarding Davis' whereabouts is asked to immediately call (866) 492-6833. A $5,000 reward is being offered for any knowledge leading to his capture.
