Cleveland police: 2 shot, 1 killed in overnight incident on east side

Authorities say several shots were fired at a Jeep as it drove east on Superior Avenue near Glenville. No suspects have been identified at this time.

CLEVELAND — One person is dead and another injured following a shooting on Cleveland's east side early Thursday morning.

The initial incident occurred just after 12:30 a.m. near the intersection of Superior Avenue and Ansel Road. Authorities believe the victims — a man and a woman, both 43 years old — were driving their Jeep on Superior when several shots were fired at the vehicle, with each of the individuals being struck by gunfire.

The Jeep continued east for about half a mile before finally stopping near East 109th Street in Glenville, where a passerby saw the man get out of the car and called 911. The male victim was taken by ambulance to University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, but the woman — identified as Quiana L. Butler, of South Euclid — died from her injuries at the scene. The automobile also had several bullet holes.

No information has been made available regarding possible suspects in this case. Anyone with knowledge of the matter is asked to immediately call either the Cleveland Division of Police at (216) 623-5464 or Crime Stoppers of Cuyahoga County at (216) 252-7463. A potential cash reward of up to $5,000 is available for tips.

In addition to the Glenville area incident, authorities also confirm a woman was found shot and killed on East 140th Street in Mount Pleasant just after 4 p.m. Wednesday. However, no additional details have been provided at this time.
