CLEVELAND — A Cleveland police officer will keep his job after an earlier guilty plea for disorderly conduct stemming from an incident involving his daughter.
Cleveland Police Patrolman's Association President Jeff Follmer confirms Det. Daniel J. Lentz, 46, instead received a 20-day suspension from the force. He had originally been suspended without pay after his arrest nearly a year ago, pending the results of the criminal proceedings.
Lentz was initially charged with felonious assault in June of 2019 after allegedly injuring his daughter, but the charge was later downgraded to disorderly conduct (a misdemeanor) in the official indictment. He pleaded guilty this past March, and received a suspended 30-day jail sentence and six months probation along with an order not to have contact with the victim.
Lentz has been with the Cleveland Division of Police since 1997, and is currently a member of the homicide unit. Follmer told 3News the union plans to appeal the suspension.
