Cleveland police say the incident happened around 11:50 p.m. in the 7800 block of Myron Avenue. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a teenage boy with a gunshot wound.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim was inside a vehicle when shots were fired, per authorities. Shortly after, the victim exited the vehicle.

Police also noted that officers have since learned that the vehicle the victim was in had just been reported stolen.

The victim was taken to a hospital by EMS. His condition is currently unknown.

At this time, the incident remains under investigation.

"It's just such a tragedy to hear that one of our young children got shot in our community," said Stephanie Howse-Jones, Cleveland City Councilwoman for Ward 7, where the incident took place. She added that "senseless gun violence" like this is occurring too much in her community.

Jones told 3News she's in the very early stages of developing a "Truth and Reconciliation Circle" for Ward 7, a panel of caring community members who can help troubled families.

"We'll literally outline the things that have occurred, and as a community, come up with solutions to really try to put the young person and the family on a better track, working in partnership with one another," she explained. "What I am asking community members is, we have to be in relationships. We have to be in relationships with people. We have to be able to identify people, support people, and redirect our community members that are going off track.”

Jones is actively seeking people to participate in the Truth and Reconciliation Circle. Anyone wanting to help or join can email her at showsejones@clevelandcitycouncil.org or her executive assistant at mcraig@clevelandcitycouncil.org.
