AKRON, Ohio — A 42-year-old Copley man will potentially spend the rest of his days behind bars for killing his own mother on Christmas Eve.
Nicholas Sibbio on Thursday pleaded guilty to the charge of murder and was immediately sentenced to life in prison, according to the Summit County prosecutor's office. He will be eligible for parole after 15 years.
Sibbio walked into Copley Police Department headquarters back on Dec. 24 and authorities say he admitted to suffocating his mom, Nancy. The suspect said the two got into an argument at their shared home on Centerview Drive before he physically assaulted and killed her.
Before the murder, Sibbio had no prior criminal record in either Barberton Municipal Court or the Summit County Court of Common Pleas. He had been being held in the Summit County Jail on a $1 million bond, but it is not known at this time where he will serve his sentence.
