CLEVELAND — Nearly 40 years after Yvonne Pointer's daughter Gloria Pointer was tragically abducted, raped and killed on her way to school, her story was featured on NBC's Dateline.
"So to have Dateline do this story to me, its not just about Gloria, its about all cases that are unsolved and people are looking for solutions," Pointer said.
Yvonne dedicated over two decades of her life after her daughters was cut short to finding justice. DNA eventually pointed to Gloria's killer Hernandez Warren, who Yvonne forgave, even visiting him in prison.
"To harbor unforgiveness really takes your life away, see, me forgiving him really showed him that you may have murdered Gloria but you didn't get my life," Pointer said.
Now an anti-violence advocate, author and community activist, also helping build schools in her daughters name in Africa, Yvonne aims to inspire others and spread hope.
Turning her pain into power, she's encouraging other families with unsolved cases to do the same and continue to pursue justice, even when it feels impossible.
"I love that they have opened a national and international platform because there's a lot of hurting people out there that may not realize that they can do something with that pain other than just sulk in it, you can rise up," Pointer said.
