CLEVELAND — 25-year-old Jaylon Jennings -- the man accused in the weekend mass shooting on West 6th Street in downtown Cleveland -- made his first court appearance in the case Thursday morning where a judge set bond at $9 million.
That total reflects $1 million on charges for each of the nine people hurt in the Sunday morning shooting.
Throughout the court appearance, Jennings tried multiple times to speak in his own defense, but his attorney repeatedly advised him to remain silent.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 21.
Jennings was arrested on Tuesday afternoon from his residence in the 2900 block of Toledo Avenue in Lorain. According to court records, Jennings is being charged with the following:
- Nine counts of attempted murder
- One count of discharge a firearm upon or over a public road or highway
- One count of CCW Permit - a handgun other than a dangerous ordnance
- One count of having weapons while under disability
The mass shooting that injured nine individuals took place on West 6th Street near Johnson Court in downtown Cleveland at around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday.
The nine victims were described as follows:
- 23-year-old man; shot in forearm
- 29-year-old man; shot in leg
- 26-year-old man; shot in wrist and lower body
- 24-year-old woman; shot in both feet
- 38-year-old man; shot in leg
- 23-year-old woman; shot in knee
- 27-year-old man; shot in both legs
- 26-year-old man; shot in leg
- 24-year-old man; shot in knee
According to Cleveland Police Chief Wayne Drummond, two of the victims were treated and released from MetroHealth Medical Center. The remaining seven are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
"They'll all be okay," he stated on Tuesday.
Video footage was released to 3News from Cleveland business owner Bobby George. The surveillance video shows the moments following the shooting with a crowd frantically dispersing and running in several directions outside of Barley House.
