2 East Cleveland police officers found guilty on multiple criminal charges

Ian McInnes and Anthony Holmes are scheduled to be sentenced in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on Nov. 14.

CLEVELAND — Ian McInnes and Anthony Holmes, two of the multiple current and former East Cleveland police officers who were indicted last year, were each found guilty on several charges by a jury in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court.

Court records show the 41-year-old McInnes was found guilty on the following charges:

  • One count of attempted felonious assault
  • Three counts of assault
  • Three counts of interfering with civil rights
  • Three counts of dereliction of duty

The 38-year-old Holmes was found guilty for interfering with civil rights, dereliction of duty, tampering with records and telecommunications fraud.

The pair are scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Sherrie Miday on Nov. 14.

CASE BACKGROUND

On March 8, 2023, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O’Malley announced that 11 former and current East Cleveland police officers were indicted for allegedly violating civil rights and public corruption.

  • Ian McInnes
  • Kyle Wood
  • John Hartman
  • Tristan Homan
  • Brian Stoll
  • Tyler Mundson
  • Laurice Mans
  • Daniel Toomer
  • Tre Dehart Robinson
  • Brian Parks
  • Nicholas Foti

Charges in the case included felonious assault, interfering with civil rights, dereliction of duty, theft in office, tampering with evidence, among other allegations.

In McInnes' case, the incidents of accused criminal activity took place between Feb. 2020 and April 2022.

“There has been a cancer growing in the East Cleveland Police Department,” Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael C. O’Malley said when announcing the charges. “We are doing our best to remove every tentacle of that cancer, so this department can rebuild and grow to put itself in a position to hire officers who will enforce the law as well as follow the law. This is a sad day for all of law enforcement.”

On May 23, 2023, two more East Cleveland police officers, Commander Larry McDonald and Sergeant Anthony Holmes, were indicted by a Cuyahoga County grand jury for tampering with evidence and telecommunications fraud, among other charges, for an incident that occurred two months earlier.
