ELYRIA, Ohio — Three people have been arrested following a carjacking in Elyria, which police say happened Thursday afternoon in the 8700 block of West Ridge Road shortly before 6 p.m.
Authorities say the situation started when two suspects carjacked a person at gunpoint before fleeing the area in the victim’s vehicle, which was listed as a black Dodge Durango.
An officer noticed the Dodge in the area of Leo Bullocks near Murray Ridge Road traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed, police explain. A second officer then saw it heading eastbound on Third Street near South Gateway Boulevard.
Soon after, the vehicle lost control and crashed on Third Street, east of West Avenue. The two suspects then exited the vehicle and fled the area on foot.
David Russell, 24, of Bedford Heights, and Trayqwan Dunlap, 18, of Cleveland, were located by authorities and arrested not far from the scene. A third suspect, Clinton Lindsey, a 24-year-old man from Cleveland, was also taken into custody. A loaded firearm was also found inside the car.
All three suspects are facing criminal charges and have been transported to the Lorain County Jail. All three are currently being held on a no bond status, pending their initial appearance in court, authorities said.
