ELYRIA, Ohio — The Elyria Police Department is investigating after one man was killed and a woman seriously injured in a Monday afternoon shooting at an apartment complex.
Police responded to a report of shots fired at an apartment complex located in the 200 block of Washington Avenue just after 3 p.m. When they arrived, officers found two victims with gunshot wounds. They performed initial life-saving measures as Lifecare and Elyria Fire was summoned to the scene.
Both victims were initially transported to University Hospitals-Elyria. A 22-year-old man, identified as Damarco McNairy of Euclid, died at the hospital. 21-year-old Danielle Dejarnette of Cleveland was later life-flighted to Cleveland's MetroHealth Hospital and is in stable condition as of Tuesday afternoon.
Preliminary investigation by Elyria police revealed a disturbance occurred inside an apartment shortly before the shooting. Police issued arrest warrants for 21-year-old Chi Sean Ogelsby in connection with the shooting incident.
Just after 9:00 p.m. on Monday evening, detectives from the Elyria Police Department and officers from the East Cleveland Police Department located Oglesby in the 1800 block of Farmington Ave in East Cleveland. Oglesby was taken into custody without incident and later transported to the Lorain County Jail where he was held without bond pending his initial appearance in court.
