EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — A now former employee at a daycare center in East Cleveland is accused of assaulting an autistic 5-year-old child last month.
East Cleveland police records show that the mother of the child called authorities on March 20 seeking to file a police report against the child's father for trespassing and against the daycare employee for the assault. The woman was advised that a report had already been generated regarding the alleged assault.
The incident occurred at Triple J's Childcare & Learning Center in East Cleveland on March 15 when the 5-year-old autistic child was recording herself on an iPad. Footage from the iPad, which was shown to the officers and recorded on one of their bodycams, shows the child recording herself with the device's camera before being struck multiple times in the upper body and pushed to the side by an adult female.
The officers, who filed the initial report regarding the incident, were unable to acquire information regarding the daycare employee in question. The responding officers called Triple J's and were told that the person responsible for the assault was no longer an employee at the daycare.
With regards to the child's father, the mother said that he had trespassed into her home on March 19 after viewing footage of the alleged assault on the child's iPad. The father was "very upset" and "began shouting obscenities and insults" toward the mother while the child was present.
The mother said she wished to file a restraining order against the child's father and was advised that would have to be done through the Cuyahoga County Justice Center. Complaint forms were placed in the mailbox of the East Cleveland City Prosecutor.
