Inmate who escaped from Ohio jail in custody

Additional details on the inmate’s identity and how he escaped were not immediately available.

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Ohio — An inmate who briefly escaped custody at the Fairfield County jail on Thursday is facing additional charges.

According to documents from the Fairfield County Sheriff's Office, Mark Allen Ashbrook was transported to the jail by the Phoenix Center, which is an addiction treatment center, around 10:50 a.m. to meet with Common Pleas Probation.

Surveillance video shows a red vehicle parked in front of the sheriff's office. Ashbrook gets out of the car and walks away. Another man is seen getting out of the car and walks toward the sheriff's office. The sheriff's office did not say who that man is exactly or why Ashbrook was allowed to walk away in the moment.

The sheriff's office and the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded, trying to find Ashbrook. Around 12:30 p.m., he was found at an address on North Eastwood Avenue.

Ashbrook was taken to the Fairfield County jail for his original charge and an additional charge of escape.
