EUCLID, Ohio — The Euclid Police Department has issued a report detailing the arrest of two males after video of the incident was widely circulated on social media.
The arrests took place Monday evening just before 6 p.m. near the 27000 block of Brush Avenue.
Officials responded to the area for reports of multiple gunshots fired. Officers observed two men walking together near East 276th Street and Sidney Drive. The behavior of one of the males led the officers to believe he was concealing a weapon, police report.
Police attempted to stop the two males, when one of them took off running. After a brief chase, the 19-year-old Euclid resident was caught and found to be armed with a 9mm semiautomatic handgun.
He was taken into to custody and faces several criminal charges including carrying a concealed weapon-- a felony.
The second male, identified as a 17-year-old Euclid resident, was approached by officers in an effort to conduct further investigation. Police report that the juvenile physically struggled with officers before being handcuffed. The teen was brought to the door of a police cruiser and ordered to get in, which he refused to do, the officers report.
While face-to- face with the officer, police alleged the teen spit in the officer's face to which the officer responded with as "knee strike to the male’s front thigh, in order to cause him to bend forward, which the male did," police said in a report. The struggle continued, resulting in the officer delivering a second knee strike to the back of the boy's thigh.
Shortly after the incident and a brief investigation, the teen's parents spoke with police and he was released. He will face misdemeanor charges in juvenile court.
Video of the incident was captured by witnesses with cellphones and submitted to a local community page.
