Cleveland Heights offering $5K reward for information about suspected arson that injured firefighter

Cleveland Heights officials say the injured firefighter was taken to an area hospital for treatment 'and is doing fine now.'

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Cleveland Heights Fire Department (CHFD) is asking for the public's help after a firefighter was injured as crews responded to a suspected arson on Randolph Road early Sunday morning. 

According to a release from the city of Cleveland Heights, the house in the 3600 block of Randolph Road was "vacant for renovations" when fire crews responded. The fire was brought under control "with great effort," but city officials say the house "sustained heavy damage."

The injured firefighter was taken to an area hospital for treatment "and is doing fine now," according to the release. There were no other injuries. 

"This fire is being investigated as possible arson. CHFD is asking for the public’s assistance and is offering up to $5,000 for information that leads to an arrest and conviction," Cleveland Heights officials added.

"CHFD also wishes to reassure residents near this incident that their homes are safe," city leaders noted.
