Frank Q. Jackson, the 24-year-old grandson of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, is due in court for arraignment Wednesday while facing a new first-degree felony charge stemming from his January arrest.

Last month, 3News reported that Cuyahoga County Court documents show Jackson is now facing a first-degree felony charge of assault involving a peace officer. Jackson was previously facing a second-degree felony for assault and continues to face a third-degree felony charge of failure to comply.

According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, the upgrade in Jackson's charge occurred due to a clerical error in which the original charge failed to indicate that the victim in the case is a peace officer.

His trial is currently set for July 27 at 9 a.m.

The charges against Jackson come as the result of a January traffic stop in Parma. According to Parma police, the incident happened just after midnight on Jan. 24 as Jackson was stopped by police for the tint of his vehicles' windows on State Road just north of Brookpark Road. He was then asked to step out of his vehicle following consent to a vehicle search. Just as a backup officer arrived on scene, he allegedly fled in his vehicle, pulling one officer along with him.

The officer was able to free himself and was not seriously injured by the incident. Officers then pursued him as he allegedly attempted to escape, hitting more than 100 miles per hour on the highway. Officers lost the vehicle after he exited westbound on I-90 at the Lorain Avenue exit.

Parma police say the suspect later turned himself in around 2:55 a.m.

Earlier in January, an arrest warrant was issued for Jackson in relation to the December assault of a woman. According to the warrant, Jackson "did knowingly cause or attempt to cause physical harm" to the victim, identified as the mother of his child.

During the incident, Jackson allegedly struck the victim several times in the head, causing her to hit a couch and fall on the floor. The victim suffered a lump to the forehead and dizziness due to being struck, the warrant reports.
