Great-grandson of former Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson pleads guilty to 2022 murder

Donald Jackson-Gates will be sentenced on August 21.

CLEVELAND — Donald Jackson-Gates, the great-grandson of former Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson, pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of murder for the shooting death of Chris'Shon Coleman in 2022.

Jackson-Gates will be sentenced in the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas on Monday, August 21 at 1 p.m. 

Coleman was fatally shot on May 14, 2022 in the 2300 block of East 40th Street on May 14. Jackson-Gates was arrested in early June. 

Jackson-Gates was initially indicted on the following charges:

  • One count of Aggravated Murder
  • Two counts of Murder 
  • Two counts of Felonious Assault
  • One count of Having Weapons Under Disability 

Jackson-Gates was previously arrested and charged with several crimes involving gang activity in 2019. Previous court documents show that Jackson-Gates lived at the same address as his mother and another of former Mayor Frank Jackson's great-grandsons.
