BROOK PARK, Ohio — A 33-year-old Garfield Heights man has died following a shooting and crash on I-480 just east of I-77. Authorities say it was around 8:41 p.m. Monday when the Independence Police Department requested assistance with the incident.
“When troopers arrived on scene, they located a black 2008 Mazda CX-9 in the snow-covered grass median with damage to its right front,” according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Initial reports first came in around 7:02 p.m. as the Independence Police Department was notified of shots being fired from an unknown vehicle at the Mazda as they were traveling westbound on I-480.
“The CX-9 then continued a short distance before it crashed into a guardrail and ended up in the median. When officers arrived on scene, they discovered the male driver was a victim of the shooting and began to provide him first aid.”
Authorities say the man, who was identified as Robert Fentress, died at the scene. Anybody with information is asked to call investigators at 216-213-2792.
