KENT, Ohio — A Kent Roosevelt High School student is in custody after allegedly bringing a firearm to school Wednesday morning.
Kent Police were called to investigate after another student alerted a staff member that one of their classmates was in possession of a gun. The high school immediately went into a lockdown that lasted nearly 10 minutes.
When the law enforcement came to the building, staff showed them 18-year-old Javion Bobbitt, the teen accused of having the weapon. He was arrested at the high school and is being charged in the incident.
After being taken into custody, officials say the gun was taken from him, and it was deemed to be an unloaded pellet gun. Students returned to their classrooms once the situation was handled, and according to a news release from the Kent Police Department, there is no cause for concern anymore at the high school.
According to MaxPreps, Bobbitt is a senior wide receiver and cornerback on the Rough Riders football team, which concluded its season late last month.
