Lakewood officials are investigating today after finding a man fatally shot inside of an apartment complex near Madison Avenue.
According to police, the incident happened Sunday morning around 9 a.m. when officers were dispatched to Elmwood Avenue for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, police were directed to 2004 Elmwood and found several shell casings outside of apartment #3.
After receiving no response from the inside, officers entered the apartment and located a man with several gunshot wounds to the head.
Officials believe the man to be a 44-year-old Lakewood resident, but police are not releasing his identity at this time until a positive identification is made by the medical examiner's office.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigations was called by the Lakewood Police Department to help process the scene.
A 19-year-old male has been arrested in connection to the shooting, but officials are not releasing his identity until formal charges are filed.
Police are also looking into "several promising leads" and are working to find anyone involved in the incident.
This investigation is ongoing.
