$1 million bond set for Elyria man accused of killing father

Lamar Hudson Jr. is charged with aggravated murder in the death of his father, Lamar Hudson Sr.

ELYRIA, Ohio — Lamar Hudson Jr., the man accused of killing his father earlier this week in Elyria, made his first appearance in the case Wednesday morning where a judge issued a $1 million bond.

Hudson Jr., 22, is due back in court for a preliminary hearing in the aggravated murder case on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

"I just want my family to know I love them with all of my heart," he said during the brief court hearing.

It was around 11:15 p.m. Monday when police responded to reports of shots fired in the area near the 1400 block of Gulf Road. Upon their arrival, officers say they found a 1998 Chevrolet Camaro with a deceased man with multiple gunshot wounds sitting in the driver’s seat. The victim was later identified as 41-year-old Lamar Hudson Sr.

Mayor Frank Whitfield confirmed Hudson Sr. was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, and offered his condolences in a Facebook post.

"He was [proud] of his daughter representing Elyria at the Memorial Day parade," Whitfield said. "My prayers go out to his family and friends. Help us bring justice to this situation."

3News talked with his family Tuesday as they honored his life.

“He calls himself a people person,” said his oldest daughter, Kiyasia. “He likes to crack a lot of jokes and he likes to laugh a lot.”
