CLEVELAND — Over the past few weeks, several young women have been carjacked in Cleveland's Little Italy neighborhood, and today, many are grateful that police finally have a man in custody.
Councilman Blaine A. Griffin is thankful for the Cleveland Division of Police and the Little Italy community after the arrest of one of the alleged carjackers involved in the string of incidents.
“The investigation is ongoing, and I expect more arrests,” said Councilman Griffin, who represents the Little Italy neighborhood. “But while there has been four recent incidents, including a non-fatal shooting, Little Italy is a safe neighborhood."
“Chief (Calvin) Williams and Commanders (Dorothy) Todd and (Sammy) Morris responded quickly to the recent rash of carjackings,” Councilman Griffin continued. “The community is and will continue to be vigilant in notifying the police if they see suspicious activity and the police will continue their work of apprehending the criminals.”
A 14-year-old male was taken into police custody on Wednesday afternoon in connection to the recent string of carjackings. The teen's identity has not been publicly revealed.
According to Cleveland Police, four aggravated robbery/motor vehicle incidents have occurred in the area over the course of the past few weeks.

The matter remains under investigation by the Cleveland Division of Police.
