LORAIN COUNTY, Ohio — A Columbia High School student was arrested after he was found to have sent a threatening message to himself through a web-based messaging system.
On Tuesday, April 9, the student reported that he had been sent a threatening text message by an anonymous number.
The message cautioned the student to stay home saying a school shooting would happen at the school "sometime during the week."
An investigation started immediately and the school was placed on a soft lockdown. A detective unit was able to determine that the message was sent from an IP address linked to the school's internet service.
It was then determined that the student had sent the message to himself through an online generated phone number. The student was then taken into custody without incident.
The Lorain County Sheriff's Office said in a press release that the student will be charged criminally, though they did not specify the exact charges.
