CLEVELAND — A Lorain man will serve more than a decade in federal prison after pleading guilty to distributing fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose.
U.S. District Judge Christopher A. Boyko on Wednesday sentenced Kevin L. Walker to 15 years behind bars. The 31-year-old had also admitted to possessing drugs.
Walker was arrested in July of 2021 on a charge of corrupting another with drugs, and prosecutors say subsequent searches of his property revealed fentanyl, meth, and crack cocaine. An investigation revealed Walker had intentionally gave fentanyl to another individual on July 28 of that year, and that the person who ingested it later died after overdosing.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney Michelle M. Baeppler released the following statement:
"Fentanyl continues to flood our nation at an alarming rate, and the citizens of Northern Ohio are not immune from its devastation. This case reflects our commitment to address not only fentanyl, but also the assortment of narcotics making their way into our communities. We will continue to work closely with our federal, state, and local partners to identify drug traffickers and their networks fueling the epidemic."
Police officers from Lorain and Westlake assisted the Cleveland Division of the FBI in this case.
