ELYRIA, Ohio — A 19-year-old shooting victim was taken into custody earlier this week after authorities say he falsified information about the crime, police announced Friday.
It all started when officers responded to the University Hospital Elyria campus where a 16-year-old Cleveland boy was being treated with a gunshot wound. Upon their arrival, the victim told police he was shot somewhere on Middle Avenue in Elyria by unknown suspects.
Detectives later determined the victim was actually a 19-year-old man with a different name than he had originally told officers.
Police say Shontez Stubbs “admitted to detectives that he was using his juvenile brother’s identity.” He also allegedly admitted that the shooting took place in Lorain and not in Elyria as originally reported.
"He also advised that he currently resides in Lorain," police said.
Stubbs, who was released from the hospital Thursday afternoon, was arrested and taken to the Lorain County Jail. He faces charges of identity theft and falsification.
