PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A man is in the hospital and a suspect is in custody following a reported shooting outside a Painesville KFC Monday afternoon.
Police were called to the Richmond Street restaurant just after 4:30 p.m. following a report of shots fired, but no victims were found at the scene. A short time later, however, officers were told a 21-year-old man drove himself to TriPoint Medical Center in Concord with a bullet wound to his stomach, and he was later airlifted to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Authorities say the victim was shot in the KFC parking lot, and eventually 24-year-old Painesville resident Anthony LeCarlo Jones Jr. turned himself in. The gun used in the crime was recovered from the scene, according to officials.
Jones appeared in Painesville Municipal Court Tuesday afternoon and charged with second-degree felonious assault. He is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on a $1 million bond.
The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to immediately call the Painesville Police Department at (440) 392-5839.
