CANTON, Ohio — A man was arrested after pointing a gun at Canton police officers and fleeing to a nearby house on Wednesday evening.
At approximately 8:07 p.m., detectives were surveilling an area near the 1500 block of Clark Avenue Southwest after reports came into the Canton Police Department of gunshots heard earlier in the day.
While checking the area, they came across a suspicious individual rummaging around in a vehicle. Concerned that they might be viewing a theft attempt, they attempted to slowly approach the vehicle. As detectives approached the vehicle, the suspect noticed them.
Detectives then noticed a green laser, commonly attached to firearms, reflecting off of their vehicle.
No shots were fired, but the suspect fled the scene to a house on the same street.
Detectives communicated with the suspect, identified as 42-year-old John Rohrer, for over an hour. Eventually Rohrer surrendered to the detectives without incident and was taken into custody.
A search warrant was executed on the residence which led to the following items being seized:
- One 9mm Taurus semi-auto pistol with a loaded magazine and a laser sight that projected in green.
- Suspected Fentanyl
- One black ski mask
Rohrer was charged with the following:
- Having Weapons While Under Disability - 3rd degree felony
- Tampering with Evidence - 3rd degree felony
- Aggravated Menacing - 5th degree felony (2 Counts)
- Possession of Drugs - 5th degree felony
- Obstructing Official Business - 5th degree felony
