CLEVELAND — U.S. Marshals on Friday arrested a man in Akron who was wanted by West Virginia authorities in connection to a March 2023 murder.
Kameron Darnell Griffin, 23, was found by the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) in the area of Kelly Avenue and 7th Avenue on Friday afternoon, the U.S. Marshals Service announced in a media release. The sheriff's office in Harrison County, West Virginia accuse Griffin of working to kidnap Dallion Lewis from his Hepzibah, WV home on March 21, 2023 and shooting him.
U.S. Marshals personnel in West Virginia and Ohio were tasked with locating Griffin after investigators determined he had fled West Virginia. Task force officials say Griffin attempted to flee from the Akron residence in which he was found, but was detained by officers outside the home.
“Outstanding collaboration between the US Marshals in northern Ohio and northern West Virginia led to the safe arrest of this fleeing fugitive," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot said. "Not only did he flee from West Virginia to evade arrest but attempted to flee from arresting task force officers here in Akron.”
According to the U.S. Marshals, Griffin allegedly worked with others to kidnap Lewis "with the intention of harming or killing him." Griffin is accused of shooting Lewis twice during the kidnapping. Lewis' body was later found dead in a street with apparent gunshot wounds.
Griffin is set to appear in court in northern Ohio for an initial appearance. If detained, he will be extradited to face trial in West Virginia.
