Man wrongly convicted in Cleveland murder faces charges in deadly crash

Wiley Bridgeman was set free back in 2014 after spending 39 years behind bars for a murder he didn't commit.

CLEVELAND — CLEVELAND – Wiley Bridgeman, a man who spent 39 years behind bars for a crime he didn’t commit, was in court Tuesday morning to face charges connected to a deadly crash.

During Tuesday's brief court hearing, bond was continued at $100,000 with a pretrial date set for Tuesday, June 4 at 9 a.m.

Bridgeman allegedly struck two road workers on Cedar Road in University Heights near the intersection at Green Road back on March 28. One of the victims, 54-year-old David Sollars of Rocky River, later died.

Bridgeman allegedly kept on driving before crashing into a pole in Gates Mills. He then spoke to 911 operators, at times appearing disoriented.

He faces several charges in the case, including aggravated vehicular homicide.

Bridgeman was one of three men wrongly convicted in a 1975 robbery-murder in Cleveland. The three were exonerated of their crimes in 2014 and left prison after 39 years behind bars.
