Police say that the first threat was received around 1:15 p.m. on Thursday. After being notified of the threat, officers identified and took a student into custody by 1:25 p.m

The student admitted to making the threats, but noted that it was "in retaliation for a comment made about another student" and that he had no intentions of committing the act.

While investigating the first threat, officers were notified of a second set of potential threats regarding a shooting at Friday's football game at Arlin Field. Police say that after the threats could not be validated.

Due to the threats, school administrators decided to cancel classes on Friday and move Mansfield Senior's Division III OHSAA playoff matchup to Rocky River High School.

According to a post on Rocky River head coach Josh Wells' X page (formerly Twitter), the Pirates will still technically be the "road" team despite being in their home stadium, with Rocky River fans sitting in the "away" stands while Mansfield will be on the "home" side.

The game between 10-1 Rocky River and 9-2 Mansfield is still scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Friday. Both school districts say all previously purchased tickets will be honored and seats can still be bought both online and at the gate.

Additionally, Mansfield Police will be in Rocky River at the game to ensure everyone's safety.

"Again, anyone who hears or sees threats or potentially violent activity, please call your local Law enforcement agency immediately," said Mansfield police officials in a press release.

At this time, charges are currently being sought against the student.
