North Canton police: Arrest made after drive-by shooting at gas station causes city schools to go into soft lockdown

No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — The North Canton Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a drive-by shooting that took place at a city gas station Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 1:20 p.m., a North Canton police officer heard gunshots in the area near the Sunoco gas station located at 550 North Main Street. When the officer arrived at the gas station, he found a vehicle with gunshot damage and the driver side door open.

The driver of the vehicle that was shot at was found inside the business and was uninjured. Around 6:20 p.m., authorities say 25-year-old Daniel Beule turned himself in at police headquarters.

In a press release, police released the following statement regarding the "soft lockdown" of all city schools that was put in place immediately after the incident"

"Due to the time of day and location of the incident, all North Canton schools were placed in a soft lockdown. A soft lockdown is when entrance and exit are not permitted to the buildings. Operations inside the buildings continue as normal."

Beule is currently being held at the Stark County Jail and faces the following charges:

  • Improperly discharging a firearm in a school safety zone (two counts)
  • Felonious assault
  • Inducing panic
  • Discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises
