He trained his dog to kill his girlfriend, and now Jeffrey Mann is up for Parole.
In 1992, Jeffrey Mann used his dog to attack and kill 28-year-old Angela Kaplan. The murder happened in Cleveland, but Kaplan was originally from Arizona.
According to our news partners in Tucson, Mann was the first person to ever have been tried and convicted of using a dog as a murder weapon.
Mann was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison. He's now 61-years-old and has served 25 years at the Grafton Correctional Institution. This is the third time he has been up for parole.
The hearing is planned for later this month.
The office of Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Michael O'Malley gave the following statement to WKYC on Tuesday evening: "Prosecutor O’Malley strongly opposes any consideration for parole. A jury found him guilty for ordering his 72 pound pit bull to maul her to death, biting her more than 70 times until she bled to death. He has never taking responsibility nor ever expressed remorse make him grossly unfit for the privilege of parole. He has even refused to pay the $5,000 in restitution to her two children ordered by the Judge."
