EUCLID, Ohio — Police say they were forces to break up a large crown at Migs Pla-Mor Roller Rink in Euclid last Friday night.

According to department spokesperson Mitch Houser, officers were called to the rink to end a youth skate session that was taking place in violation of health department orders in place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Around 150-200 juveniles were at the facility, and "large groups" of them were involved in what officials say became a riot.

Houser told 3News one person was assaulted, and a second victim under the age of 18 is expected to come forward today. Pepper balls were apparently used to disperse the crowd.

This incident appears to have no connection to the protests against the killing of Minnesota's George Floyd, which have mostly been peaceful but were at times violent (particularly in Cleveland on May 30). Houser said police only fired pepper balls at the feet of those assembled "after repeated verbal warnings were given," and that rocks and bottles were thrown at officers.

"This has been an ongoing challenge with unruly crowds of juveniles both inside and outside of Pla Mor over the past few years," Houser added. "The situation has not gotten any better despite our attempt to work with the business owner."

3News is attempting to get more information regarding this incident.
