MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio — The Mayfield Heights Police Department has identified the man involved in an incident at Lander Elementary School.
After an investigation, Mayfield Heights Police have determined that the man accused of attempting to lure two Mayfield Heights elementary students into his car was picking up his daughter from an aftercare program at the school.
"Once the investigation is complete the case will be forwarded to the Prosecutor to determine if any charges will be filed against the male," said Mayfield Heights Police Department officials on Wednesday.
According to a Facebook post from the Mayfield Heights Police Department, the incident happened at approximately 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday. Police say two Lander Elementary students were walking home from school in the area of Bellingham Road and Ascot Road when they were approached by a man who asked if he could give them a ride home.
He put his hand on the shoulders of one of the children. The students said no to the man, who then went back to his car and left the area.
Mayfield Heights police say the two children ran home and told their parents about the incident. The families called both police and the administration at Lander Elementary School to report the incident. Police started their investigation by responding to the homes of the two students.
The vehicle the man was driving was described by students as a white sedan with tinted windows.
Mayfield Heights police officials say that officers will continue to pay special attention to the area during morning and afternoon dismissal times. Police add that the department's School Resource Officer was present outside of the school as students were dismissed.
This incident is currently under investigation.
