CLEVELAND — One day after holding a press conference asking for the public's help locating a "violent fugitive," Cuyahoga County and federal authorities say they have taken the man into custody.
According to a news release, members of the U.S. Marshals Service and Cuyahoga Metro Housing Authority Police Department captured Lorenzo Watson near the border of Cleveland and East Cleveland Friday afternoon. The 56-year-old Watson is said to have been hiding in the attic of a home on the 1200 block of East 125th Street, and "eventually complied" with arrest orders following the deployment of a K-9 officer.
Local and federal officials announced a $10,000 reward on Thursday for any information leading to Watson's arrest. The Cleveland native had been wanted for several alleged crimes around East Cleveland, including the shooting death of a man on Terrace Road back on July 6.
"He is a menace," East Cleveland Police Detective Joseph Marche told reporters yesterday, "and we need to get him into custody as soon as possible."
Law enforcement apparently received a number of tips upon the press conference's conclusion, which led them to East 125th Street. Aside from Watson, authorities also arrested a man charged with trying to hide the suspect as well as a woman wanted for unrelated warrants.
"Crimestoppers of Cuyahoga County is an integral partner to all law enforcement agencies across Cuyahoga County," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot wrote in a statement about the arrest, referencing the reward money. "This suspect was a violent menace to our communities and with the help of Crimestoppers and the public he will be behind bars for a very long time."
One of Watson's alleged accomplices in the homicide, Ericka Goodwin, is currently in the Cuyahoga County Jail on an aggravated murder charge. Information on a second male accomplice was not immediately available.
