US Postal Inspection Service reiterates call for information on homicide of USPS mail carrier in Warren; $250,000 reward on offer

Warren police said the postal worker, who has since been identified as 33-year-old Jonte Davis, was shot by a suspect in another vehicle while inside his USPS van.

CLEVELAND — The U.S. Postal Service on Friday issued a fresh call for information on the person who shot and killed a USPS mail carrier in Warren last month.

A $250,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects involved, the USPIS said.

"The Postal Inspection Service views the security and well-being of postal service employees as its top priority and will work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to bring those responsible for this crime to justice," a USPIS spokesperson said.

Warren police said the postal worker, who has since been identified as 33-year-old Jonte Davis, was shot by a suspect in another vehicle while he was inside his USPS van on March 2. The shooting happened at around 1:45 p.m. in the 600 block of Olive Avenue Northeast.

A few hours after the shooting, police said they located the suspect's vehicle in a driveway at 429 Maryland Avenue Northeast.

Police said in March they believed the shooting was a targeted attack and that Davis and the suspect or suspects knew each other. At the time, police interviewed "several individuals" in connection to the shooting. No one is in custody.

The first witness to arrive at the scene of the shooting told 3News last month that he heard six shots and a car speed up and head west on Washington Street.

The Postal Inspection Service said suspects should be considered "armed and dangerous" and that anyone who may have information on the suspect or suspects should "take no action to apprehend this person yourself."

The USPIS spokesperson said they "cannot release any further details, other than it is still an active investigation, as to not jeopardize the integrity of the case."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact the USPIS at 1-877-876-2455. Callers should say "law enforcement" when prompted on the call and reference Case No. 4262416-WPV. The USPIS says all information "will be kept strictly confidential."
