Kent Police say a man has been arrested and charged for possessing child pornography.
On May 6, Kent Police and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force executed a search warrant in the 900 block of S. Lincoln Street in the city of Kent. There, investigators discovered images depicting child pornography.
29-year-old Tyler Williams was taken into custody at that address. Williams is a registered sex offender. According to the Portage County Sheriff's Office, Williams is a Tier II sex offender. In July of 2014, the department says Williams was convicted of Gross Sexual Imposition involving a victim under the age of 13.
Williams is charged with Pandering Obscenity Involving a Minor. He was arraigned in Portage County Municipal Court and is being held in the Portage County Jail. Kent Police say more charges are likely after the Portage County Prosecutor reviews the case.
Williams is expected back in court on May 14 for a preliminary hearing.
The Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is a federal initiative funded by the U.S. Department of Justice. It is made up of city, county, state and federal law enforcement.
The ICAC focuses on finding and arresting suspects who "use the internet to lure minors into illicit sexual relationships, or use the internet to produce, distribute or solicit child pornography."
