CLEVELAND — A 23-year-old Painesville man accused of murdering his father will have a sanity evaluation hearing after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity, court records show.

Christopher P. Farmer, who was indicted this month on a charge of aggravated murder and multiple counts of murder and felonious assault, entered a written not-guilty plea on Nov. 12. His bond was reset at $1 million.

Farmer's case will be back in court for a hearing on the issue of a sanity evaluation on January 3, 2025.

According to a September press release from the Painesville Police Department, officers responded to the 300 block of Sanford Street just before 1 a.m. on Sept. 15 to investigate a shooting. Police allege that a 67-year-old man was fatally shot inside his home by his son. Farmer was arrested at the home and taken to the Painesville Police Department where detectives interviewed him and charged him with murder.
