Serial rape suspect who worked as ride share driver arrested in Akron

Mohamed Reeda has been arrested and charged with three counts of rape, two counts of abduction and one count of attempted rape.

AKRON, Ohio — A 23-year-old ride share driver accused of being a serial rapist was arrested in Akron on Thursday.

According to Akron police, 23-year-old Mohamed Reeda was arrested at his residence in Akron and charged with three counts of rape, two counts of abduction and one count of attempted rape. The charges stem from crimes Reeda is accused of committing between November of 2020 and March of 2023 -- a pattern police say indicates that he would have continued to commit such crimes.

Additional charges are expected as detectives have identified at least eight victims of crimes alleged to have been committed by Reeda. Per police, Reeda worked as a driver for a ride share service in Akron and targeted women who were walking alone or with one other woman, luring them into his car under false pretenses before taking the women to isolated places where he allegedly victimized them.

"Removing this serial predator from our community has clearly made Akron a safer place," Akron Police Chief Steve Mylett said in a statement. "The victims in this case experienced trauma that most will not be able to understand, and nothing can be done to undo the harms this suspect caused; however, I hope this arrest is the first step leading to bringing the suspect to justice and assist the victims in their journey towards healing."

Anybody who had similar contact with Reeda, whether you got into the vehicle or not, is asked to please contact the Akron Police Detective Bureau at 330-375-2490.
