CLEVELAND — An investigation is underway after shots were fired outside of Collinwood High School in Cleveland on Wednesday morning.
According to Cleveland Metropolitan School District officials, the school, which is located in the 15000 block of St. Clair Avenue, was placed under a lockdown during the incident.
CMSD officials said it's believed that a student outside may have been the target of the fired shots. The student made it safely into the school and was not injured, according to officials.
On Thursday afternoon, school officials told 3News that the incident is still under investigation.
"In the meantime, we are grateful for the swift response of CMSD safety team city police to secure our school and to launch an active and aggressive investigation of what appeared to have been a targeted attack on one of our students."
Cleveland police, as well as CMSD Safety and Security officials, responded to the scene.
Currently, CMSD, Cleveland officials and police are investigating the incident.
"Together, CMSD and city officials are examining the measures we can collectively take to address the challenges that our schools and community face with a spike in violent acts. Prior to the Collinwood incident, the City’s leadership had already scheduled a collaborative group of prevention and safety partners regarding safe routes to school as part of the Mayor’s Violence Prevention efforts."
