SOLON, Ohio — A Solon police officer was hurt after officials say he was dragged by a suspect's car during a traffic stop early Sunday morning.
According to authorities, the incident occurred just before 2 a.m., when the officer reported clocking a 2015 Nissan Altima at 88 miles per hour in a 60 mph zone on U.S. Route 422 eastbound. Once the car was pulled over, the officer claimed he "detected an odor of marijuana" and ordered the suspect to get out of the vehicle, but he refused.
After about four minutes, the suspect admitted to having a gun on him, at which time the officer tried to forcibly remove him. However, the suspect then allegedly sped off, leading to the officer being dragged for an unspecified distance.
The officer has been identified as 57-year-old Patrolman James Cervik, a 31-year veteran of the Solon Police Department. He was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries but has since been released.
Police later reported seeing the Altima on Harper Road and began pursuing it. However, this effort was later halted for safety reasons, as the car was reportedly driving at speeds exceeding 100 mph.
The suspect has been identified as 27-year-old Termaine Jackson, of Twinsburg. A warrant has been issued for his arrest on charges of assault on a peace officer, obstructing official business, and fleeing and eluding.
Anyone with information regarding Jackson's whereabouts is asked to immediately call Solon police at (440) 248-1234.
