CANTON, Ohio — A student at Oakwood Middle School in Stark County's Plain Township was arrested on Monday for bringing a gun into the building.
According to Captain Ryan Carver of the Stark County Sheriff's Office, the boy brought a 9mm handgun inside the school. He showed it to a few students, who then reported the presence of the gun to Oakwood school staff members.
Staff members at Oakwood informed the school resource officer, who located the gun in the student's backpack. The student told the officer that he did not intend to cause any harm and had just wanted to show the gun to some students. Capt. Carver added that the gun was not loaded, but it had been reported stolen earlier by its owner.
There were no injuries reported.
The student will be charged with conveyance of a firearm into a school safety zone.
