Suspected BMW thief captured by Summit County deputies in Green

GREEN, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office reports that a 28-year-old man is in custody after allegedly stealing a car and leading law enforcement on a chase from Uniontown into Green. 

According to a release, the Uniontown Police Department began a foot pursuit with a suspect accused of stealing a vehicle at about 6 p.m. on Sunday. The pursuit made its way into the city of Green, near Mayfair Road. 

Summit County Sheriff's deputies joined members of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Jackson Township Police Department, and Stark County Sheriff's Office in the search as they converged on the area. 

A local business owner helped pinpoint the suspect's location after telling deputies that the suspect pointed a gun in their direction. Sheriff's deputies say the suspect dropped the gun before entering a wooded area.

According to officials, Summit County Sheriff's deputies and a Sheriff’s K9 Unit entered the woods, located the suspect, and took him into custody. The suspect was identified as Trenton D. Marks of Atwater. 

The handgun was recovered and found to be stolen from a vehicle in the city of Green. A stolen BMW was recovered earlier from the city of Green. 

Marks was arrested, transported, and booked into the Summit County Jail for the following charges:

  • Aggravated Menacing (M-1)
  • Having Weapons Under Disability (F-3)
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (F-4)
  • Theft of a Firearm (F-5)

Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

“Incidents like this demonstrate why it’s so important for our local agencies to have close working partnerships and good communication,” said Summit County Sheriff Kandy Fatheree in a statement. “I’m proud of my team for locating this suspect so quickly, and for seamlessly working with multiple agencies, including those from beyond our county.”
