Surveillance video captures moments surrounding downtown Cleveland mass shooting

Nine people were injured in the shooting. A suspect was arrested on Tuesday.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland business owner Bobby George has provided 3News with surveillance video from outside of Barley House that shows the chilling moments following the mass shooting that injured nine people early Sunday morning.

The video shows at 2:24 a.m., a large crowd of people are standing outside of the bar on West 6th Street. Police lights can be seen reflected in the distance. Approximately 15 seconds into the video, the crowd is frantically dispersing and running in several directions, including into Barley House. One man appears to be injured and hopping on one leg as he tries to get to safety. Police officers can be seen tending to victims on the nearby sidewalk.

3News' Kaitor Kay spoke with Chris Messina, president of Cleveland steel mill equipment manufacturer Rad-Con. He was on West 6th Street with some clients when the gunman began to fire, and says one of his clients actually got shot in the leg.

"The shooting stopped abruptly, and people were still screaming, crawling, and going all over the place," Messina recalled. "That kind of died down, and then the groaning starts, and there's the people that are wounded that are on the sidewalk. And then everybody starts coming out slowly to make sure it was safe.

The video was made available by George on the same day as Cleveland officials announced that a suspect was arrested for the shooting. Members of the U.S. Marshals took 25-year-old Jaylon Jennings into custody at approximately 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon at a location in the 2900 block of Toledo Avenue in Lorain. Jennings was arrested without incident.

George, who owns Ethos Capital Partners and multiple restaurants in the Greater Cleveland area, including Barley House, put up a $50,000 reward for information leading to the apprehension of the suspect. He was praised by Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb for his donation during a briefing announcing the arrest.

George said a tipster reached out "right away" after the reward was announced on Monday. "I look at things from a businessman's perspective," he told our Lydia Esparra during Tuesday's briefing. "If you show someone the incentive, I'll show you the outcome."
