Mazany was struck and killed while assisting with an unrelated traffic stop on Route 2.

PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Big developments in the case of Brian Anthony, who was charged in the hit-and-run death of Mentor police officer Mathew Mazany last year.

Anthony appeared in Lake County Common Pleas Court on Friday morning to change his plea to guilty on all charges against him.

Sentencing is scheduled for Friday, April 12 at 11 a.m. Anthony faces a maximum punishment of eight years behind bars.

The crime dates back to June 24 when authorities say Anthony was behind the wheel of a vehicle that struck and killed officer Mazany as he was assisting with an unrelated traffic stop on Route 2.

Prosecutors alleged that blood and urine samples showed Anthony had heroin and ethanol in his system, along with morphine, codeine and fentanyl.
