PAINESVILLE, Ohio — A Warren teen who tried to steal a Willoughby Hills ambulance back in June will serve four months behind bars for his crimes.
As part of his sentencing last week, 19-year-old Jamarion Hill was given 126 days in the Lake County Jail, with credit for 81 days already served. Court records show Hill will also be on probation for four years, must undergo substance abuse treatment while incarcerated, and will be required to complete a diversion program, among other things.
Back on June 16, Hill jumped into the parked ambulance and began to drive away from University Hospitals Lake West Medical Center. While this was happening, firefighter/paramedic Brian Paladino jumped through the driver's side window and "quickly subdued the male driver of the stolen ambulance. As he was subduing the male, he quickly took actions to maneuver the ambulance from being able to be driven any further by muscling the steering wheel out of the male's hands."
The ambulance sustained "moderate damage" after it crashed into the nearby helicopter landing pad. Paladino suffered minor injuries while Hill was arrested, later pleading guilty in July to felony charges of attempted grand theft and disrupting public services.
If Hill violates the terms of his sentence, he could be sent to prison for up to 2 1/2 years, per court documents.
