Police said an 18-year-old man 'was run over, possibly inadvertently, while trying to escape the volley of gunshots.'

AKRON, Ohio — An 18-year-old man was taken to the hospital overnight with “significant injuries” after Akron police say he was run over by a car.

He was one of two teens hurt during a “large party” at the old Erie Island school parking lot at Cordova Avenue and Peckham Street, according to Akron police.

The other victim is a 17-year-old boy who was dropped off at an Akron hospital with a gunshot wound around 12:15 a.m. Police say his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Their names have not been released.

“Investigators determined that both teens were injured when gunshots erupted at the gathering,” Akron police said in a press release Monday morning. “An unknown suspect shot the 17-year-old victim during the altercation. The driver of the vehicle that struck the teen fled the scene. The other teen was run over, possibly inadvertently, while trying to escape the volley of gunshots.”

Police say a rifle and numerous shell casings were collected at the scene.

No arrests have been made as the incident remains under investigation.
