NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — An Ohio State trooper was treated for minor injuries after a Wednesday night incident involving two vehicles that were fleeing westbound on I-480.
It started shortly after 9:30 p.m. when authorities responded to a complaint of numerous cars causing a disturbance. Upon their arrival, officers reported seeing a vehicle driving recklessly in the Park-N-Ride along Great Northern Boulevard.
The vehicle fled the scene as officers blocked other cars from leaving the area. The officers had to back off, however, when two vehicles accelerated toward them, went up the curb, into the grass and fled the area.
“The two vehicles fled west onto I-480 from Great Northern Boulevard and crashed into an Ohio State Trooper,” authorities said in a press release. “The trooper was working construction detail.”
Authorities say the trooper’s injuries were minor. He was sitting inside his vehicle at the time of the incident.
Both vehicles were found unoccupied, one at the crash scene and the other at Stearns Road. One person was taken into custody. Authorities also say one of the vehicles was entered as stolen.
The situation remains under investigation. No additional details were immediately available.
