Uber driver shot during attempted carjacking in Cleveland

The Uber driver was able drive himself to University Hospitals for treatment.

CLEVELAND — An Uber driver is in critical condition Tuesday after being shot during an attempted carjacking on Cleveland's east side.

68-year-old Cedric King Sr. dropped off his passenger at the intersection of Martin Luther King Junior Drive and Woodstock Avenue around 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning.  A male armed robber then approached the vehicle and tried to steal his car.

The suspect took Mr. King's cellphone and pointed a gun at him while trying to open the driver's side door. Mr. King says he attempted to reach for his firearm when the suspect shot him in the chest. He then drove himself to University Hospitals for treatment, where he remains.

No further information is available at this time. Police say no arrests have been made.

King Sr. is an Army veteran and graduate of Cleveland State's Marshall College of Law. His family is offering a reward for any information.
