CLEVELAND — Two men wanted for separate homicides in the city of Cleveland are now in federal custody after being captured over the last two days.
According to the U.S. Marshals service, 44-year-old Deangelo Thomas was arrested Wednesday afternoon on Archwood Avenue, while 28-year-old Darnelle Hurt was captured near East 79th Street and Cedar Avenue. Both were apparently in possession of firearms, including Hurt with a short barrel AK47.
Thomas had been wanted since last week, when authorities say he broke into his ex-girlfriend Arianne Lorene Welch's home on Mt. Auburn Avenue and shot her multiple times. She later died at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, and yesterday Thomas was found in a vehicle while leaving an apartment.
Hurt, meanwhile, allegedly shot his girlfriend's 48-year-old father multiple times after getting into an argument with her in the Arbor Park neighborhood. The man died at the scene, with his daughter and three grandchildren (all under age four) there when it happened. Like Thomas, Hurt was also located in a car.
"Violence in Cleveland will not be tolerated, we will work with our local partners to identify the perpetrators of these horrible crimes," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliot said in a statement. "Additionally, we will work together with our federal partners to ensure all appropriate charges a brought to those committing new crimes."
Specific charges against Thomas and Hurt were not announced.
