CLEVELAND — Federal officials on Tuesday arrested a 20-year-old suspect in connection with the killing of a teen at a Bedford Heights gas station earlier this spring.
Members of the U.S. Marshals Service's Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force captured DaTwaun Diamond at a home on Cleveland's Case Court this afternoon. The Euclid native faces charged of murder and felonious assault for the death of 19-year-old La'Quan Evans.
According to authorities, an "incident" between Evans and Diamond back on March 30 led to Diamond shooting and killing Evans at a gas station near the 21800 block of Libby Road. Diamond sped off in his car and evaded capture but was later identified as a possible suspect, and a Cuyahoga County grand jury indicted him on May 6.
"The fugitive investigation for this violent suspect ended with a safe arrest for everyone involved," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said of Diamond's arrest. "The city of Cleveland has one less violent individual out there because of the hard work of the men and women of our task force."
Diamond, who has no prior felony record, was scheduled to be arraigned today. Details of his court appearance were not disclosed.
